3–4:15 p.m. FSPA St. Rose Convent Archives Tour and Reception for Viterbo Employees – St. Rose Convent. The reception is being held from 3–4 p.m. Employees are asked to come to the main entrance at St. Rose Convent. The archives are extensive and feature unique pieces of Viterbo and FSPA history.

6:30–7:30 p.m. Minds at Work Event "Prospects: An Excerpt from a Constrained Fiction" with Rolf Samuels, English – School of Nursing Building 195. His work addresses the current face of scouting in baseball and opts to add a category. Using a set number of words and creating fictional back stories, Rolf has created detailed lives of characters that could potentially change the scouting of baseball players. What changes has Rolf made? How complex is this new system? Is it a viable fictional system? Could it ever be used in MLB? Not just for English majors and minors, open to the Viterbo community.

Employees: Wish Jessica Miller, admission, at a farewell reception in her honor from 3–4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27 in the Reinhart Center Board Room. Miller and family will leave to join her husband Chad Miller in Fremont, Nebraska, where he is the head baseball coach at Midland University. Miller has worked in the admission office for 10 years. She earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Viterbo. Her last day at the university will be Wednesday, Oct. 29.


Final Edit, the English club, is hosting a Tolkien Night Saturday, Oct. 25 from 6–8 p.m. in Murphy Center 432. Michael Wodzak will read from The Hobbit and the group will screen some corresponding scenes from the most recent film adaptations. Open discussion afterwards. All are welcome.

La Crosse Warming Shelter Drive: Students in Social Work 275 are sponsoring a drive for the La Crosse Warming Shelter. Donations of boots/tennis shoes, hand/foot warmers, jeans, t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, socks, hats, mittens, granola bars, or cold cereal are appreciated. The clothing items can be any adult sizes, new or gently used condition. There are boxes in academic building and residence halls for donations to be collected. Questions? Purple is the color of domestic violence awareness. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Viterbo University ATOD and Violence Prevention Task Force asks that you Join the National Network to End Domestic Violence’s Week of Action by wearing purple on Thursday, Oct. 23, for #Purple Thursday. Help paint the United States purple to express your solidarity with survivors of domestic violence and their families and take a stand against violence. Also, call on Congress to increase funding for domestic violence services. Contact your Senators and Representatives today.


National Make a Difference Day Volunteers Needed: Interested individuals can sign up in the Student Union from 12:15–1:15 p.m. today. National Make a Difference Day is Saturday, Oct. 25 in La Crosse beginning at 11 a.m. Viterbo is partnering with UW-La Crosse and Western Technical College to promote this national effort.
