Sister Marlene Weber, Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, 76, died Monday, April 27, 2015 at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse. She was instrumental in the development of Viterbo, serving in the sociology department for six years in the 70s and later, from 1989-92 as dean of students. The Viterbo Concert Choir and 9th Street Singers will present their final concert of the year at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at St. Paul Lutheran’s Church, located at 420 West Avenue, La Crosse. The concert is free and the community is invited to attend.

 

The Education Club is seeking faculty and staff volunteers for their “Pie a Teacher” booth at Courtyard Carni Friday, May 1. Shifts are a half hour from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. The shaving cream pies will be 50¢ each and all proceeds will go to help children in Nicaragua. The Viterbo community is invited to hear lunch time speaker Habibo Haji at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 30 in the School of Nursing Building Collins Auditorium. Audience members are welcome to bring their lunch or purchase a boxed lunch. Haji is a registered nurse who will speak on the topic of resilience. She is the co-author of her autobiography, Conquering the Odds Journey of a Shepherd Girl. The book is her story of growing up in a village in Africa and overcoming life’s difficulties and hardships.

 

The Franciscan Healthcare Auxiliary’s annual geranium sale will be April 29–May 1, with all proceeds going toward nursing scholarships at Viterbo University and Western Technical College. Geraniums will be sold from 8 a.m.–6 p.m. each day at the Franciscan Healthcare garage building at 11th and Ferry streets in La Crosse; from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. April 29–30 and 9 a.m.–1 p.m. May 1 at the Onalaska clinic; and from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Wednesday at the Holmen clinic. The sale includes 4.5-inch potted geraniums for $4.25 each, patio pots, hanging baskets and combination planters.

 

Find out who will be honored with the Teacher of the Year, Employee of the Year, and other awards at the annual Rose Awards ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30 in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. A reception will follow the event. Everyone is welcome to attend.
