NEXSTAR SEASON BRINGS COMEDY AND MUSIC TO VITERBO UNIVERSITY FINE ARTS CENTER IN 2017-2018
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Enjoy a light-hearted evening of fun entertainment with the 2017-2018 NexStar Season at the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center.
In contrast with the university’s Bright Star Season, which offers larger-scale productions, the NexStar Season offers light entertainment that is often in a more contemporary style or featuring up-and-coming artists.
The season opens Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. with the return of audience favorite The Capitol Steps, a troupe of former (but not disgruntled) congressional staffers who travel the country satirizing the very people and places that once employed them. Their new show, What to Expect When You’re Electing, will feature comedy sketches and songs pertaining to current events.
The season continues Feb. 1 with I Am, He Said, a tribute to the music of Neil Diamond. Singer, guitarist, writer, and recording artist Matt Vee, the nephew of legendary ‘60s pop star Bobby Vee, and his band will provide an entertaining evening celebrating the music of one of the best-selling artists of all time.
Two more comedy acts will follow with Puppet Up! Uncensored, an outrageous and very spontaneous show featuring over 80 original Henson puppets, on Feb. 28. Six world-class puppeteers deliver a night of off-the-cuff comedy and a unique experience due to its improvisational nature. The season will conclude April 12 with the return of the Reduced Shakespeare Company’s William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged), a hilarious Shakespearean smorgasbord featuring all of The Bard’s famous characters, greatest lines, and magnificent speeches in a fast-paced comic misadventure. Both of these performances are recommended for mature audiences.
“The NexStar Season is a more light-hearted collection of performances that has been immensely popular since its first season,” said Michael Ranscht, director of the Fine Arts Center. “This season is a great option for people looking to have a laugh and enjoy a few nights out with friends.”
Season tickets are on sale now through Aug. 11 and can be purchased by contacting the Viterbo Box Office at 608-796-3100. Packages start at $79 for all four performances. More information about the performances may be found at www.viterbo.edu/fac.
