Liturgical Ministries at Viterbo University
Student and staff
talents are needed to make the Roman Catholic Liturgy a beautiful and real
celebration for the people of God. There are opportunities for everyone to
participate.
Sacristan:
The sacristan is responsible for
preparing the chapel for Mass. Their responsibilities include but are not
limited to: lighting candles, preparing chalices, patens, books, turning on
lights, setting the books, finding gift bearers and ensuring all other mass
participants are present and all spots are filled if someone does not show up.
The sacristan works closely with Father to ensure that he has all he needs as
well.
Lector:
The lector is responsible for
proclaiming the Word of God to the congregation at the Mass. The lector needs
to ensure that they have looked at the readings beforehand to ensure that there
are no questions or concerns about what they will be proclaiming.
St. Francis Choir:
The St. Francis Choir is the featured
choir at the San Damiano Chapel for Sunday Liturgies, Feast Days and other
celebrations. The choir also performs for Viterbo and community
functions. This is a volunteer group, requiring no
audition. All ages and abilities are welcome to join the St.
Francis Choir. Rehearsals are an hour before both masses on Sundays, and all
other rehearsals will be determined by the director.
Cantor:
Cantors at San Damiano are responsible
for leading the Responsorial Psalm at Mass
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion (EMHC):
The
Eucharistic Minister is responsible for helping to distribute the precious body
and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. The EM is crucial in helping to ensure that
everyone who is able and in a state of grace receives Jesus.
Hospitality Ministers:
The greeter is responsible for being
the first face the congregation will see when entering the chapel. The greeter
is asked to be warm and welcoming to all who enter. A smile and a good morning
are strongly encouraged for all.
San Damiano Chapel is
open from 7 am to 10 pm each weekday for quiet time, prayer, reflection, etc.
