Viterbo University offers a Middle School Endorsement Program for teachers who teach, or who are interested in teaching, at the middle school level.
After July 1, 2010, requirements to qualify for this endorsement are:
A current, valid Iowa teachers' license with either the general elementary endorsement or one of the subject matter secondary level endorsements. EDUC 517 Understanding the Young Adolescent - 3 cr
EDUC 628 Models for Teaching Middle School Students - 3 cr
EDUC 531 Adolescent Literacy - 3 cr
EDUC 516 Field Experience (30 clock hours) - 2 cr
Choose two or more of the following content areas:
EDUC 546 Social Studies: 12 credit hours to include U.S. History, World History, Government, Geography
EDUC 546 Mathematics: 12 credit hours with algebra included
EDUC 546 Science: 12 credit hours including coursework in Life, Earth and Physical Science
EDUC 546 Language Arts: 12 credit hours in language arts to include Composition, Language Usage, Speech, Young Adult Literature, Literature Across Cultures
