EDUC 532 (formerly 769) LITERACY COACHING PART I (3 cr)
This three credit course is designed as an introductory course to prepare literacy coaches in three areas of essential knowledge: systems, processes, and relationships. A Viterbo-trained literacy coach is a literacy leader who is trained to provide explicit professional development to teachers in a wide variety of situations. Coaching is educator-centered in that a coach uses demonstration, observation, and engaged conversations related to specific teacher beliefs and practices. Theoretically, within the constructivist view of teaching, the coach facilitates conversations with the educator within his/her zone of proximal development. The ultimate goal is learning for all students. Pre-req: Wisconsin 316 license and two years of classroom teaching experience.
EDUC 533 (formerly 771) LITERACY COACHING PART II (3 cr)
This is the second course in the three-course requirement to complete the Literacy Coaching Certificate. The course is designed to revisit and build on the topics introduced in the first course, to prepare literacy coaches in three areas of essential knowledge: systems, literacy processess, and relationships. Pre-req: Successful completion of Part I
EDUC 534 (formerly 772) LITERACY COACHING PART III (3 cr)
This is a 3 credit practicum. Course requirements: acceptance into the literacy coaching certificate program, permission to complete the practicum in one's own school from the administration, documentation of competence in the stated goals and objectives of the certificate program. You have two academic years to complete the practicum and you must have a minimum of two site visits by the literacy coaching faculty.
