Faculty and Staff Guide
to Library Services

This library guide describes ways faculty and staff can communicate needs for resources, services and instruction to the library. The library emphasizes a partnership between a library partner and each department to enhance student learning and faculty research. Faculty members are encouraged to offer suggestions about any aspect of library operations. Your library partner is your primary contact, but you are also welcome to contact the Director of the Library, Gretel Stock-Kupperman (796-3272, glstock@viterbo.edu), send an email message through the library Web page or contact a member of the library committee.

Reserves

The library offers physical reserves (a reserve shelf) and electronic reserves (posting links in Moodle). Instructors should complete a fair use analysis using this checklist for each item placed on reserve. For more information on reserves, please contact Liz Bass. In addition, the Media Center will upload Viterbo-owned DVDs, videos, and CDs to an online video streaming server. These items can be watched online by students who log into Moodle.  Please see the Digital Conversion Request Form for details.

Partnership Program

The Todd Wehr Memorial Library Partnership Program exists to establish ongoing relationships between the Library and the university’s academic departments. The Partnership Program is composed of library staff and departmental faculty working together to enhance communication and improve library resources and services. For more information on Partnership roles, see Partnership Program Roles and Guidelines.

Partnership Librarians will proactively develop relationships between the library and academic departments through a variety of approaches. An effective Partner will take advantage of opportunities to learn about and contribute to his or her area. Partnership Librarians are responsible for four main areas of connection and collaboration with faculty:
  • Communication
  • Collection Development/Maintenance
  • Consultation/Curriculum Development

For links and tips on selecting materials, see our acquisitions page.

Instruction

Give yourself or your students a jump start on research. Instruction and orientation sessions are available for classes, groups, and individuals by appointment. Recommend individual research assistance for your students. Request one-on-one instruction for yourself in your office or in the library. A librarian will assist you with using databases and other library resources. During the past three academic years an average of 109 class sessions were offered to 1,593 individuals. Please call or e-mail Kim Olson-Kopp (796-3263) to schedule your class or yourself or pass on this contact information to your students.
