Students completing the Latin American Studies minor will be able to:

  • Describe the main ancient civilizations of the region, and evaluate their legacies today.  
  • Summarize main events in the conquest, colonization, and path to independence of Latin American countries.     
  • Describe the cultural composition of the Latin American peoples and compare its socio-cultural similarities and differences in history, politics, literature, the arts, and social and medical services.
  • Analyze the consequences of the United States involvement in the past and present affairs in the region.
  •  Identify and debate current issues of Latin American countries and predict outlook for the future.

Students with a Latin American Studies minor will improve their cultural competency skills, which will empower them to find jobs in professionals careers like health care, education, business, social work, and communication among others.
