The Institutional Review Board

The Institutional Review Board is required by government regulations to review and approve all research with human subjects. Any faculty, students or staff planning or conducting research that involves human subjects in any way, whether it be interviews, or surveys, or medical procedures, must submit a research proposal to the IRB.

All research proposals fall into one of the following categories: exempt, expedited, or full review. (See descriptions below for general guidelines on the research categories.  For a complete description of the Viterbo University IRB policy handbook, click here or on the navigation button on the right)

Proposals that fall into the Exempt and Expedited categories will be reviewed within one to two weeks. Full review proposals will be reviewed at the next IRB Review Committee meeting.  Please allow for necessary lead time so a proposal can be approved prior to initiating the study.
