Gregg Attleson, a student in the Community Interpreting Certificate, participated as a medical interpreter in Guatemala. 

 In February 2011 a medical mission organized by Refuge International took place in San Raimundo (Guatemala) where some 40 volunteers from around the US provided medical care in this clinic. A practicum was set up by Viterbo to provide hands-on experience for graduate nursing students as well as for a student in the Community Interpreting Certificate. The Viterbo Community Interpreting Certificate student, Gregg Attleson, was one of eleven interpreters who worked with medical staff and patients to facilitate communications.

Presentations will focus on the role of the interpreter, perception of the interpreter's job, telephone interpreting, intercontextual interpreting and an analysis on the process to certify medical interpreters in the United States
