Life Insurance
Viterbo University sponsors a term life
insurance plan for all full-time employees.
Coverage begins on the 1st day of the month after 30 days of
employment, for an employee electing to participate in the term life insurance
plan. This insurance plan is available
at no cost to the employee, only for those employees who voluntarily enroll in
the University-sponsored LTD insurance plan.
The plan benefit is limited to two times an employee’s annual salary,
with a maximum benefit of $350,000. Employee
must elect coverage within the first 30 days of employment.
Long Term Disability Insurance
Full-time employees are eligible to purchase LTD coverage. Coverage begins on the 1st day of the month
after 30 days of employment, for an employee electing to participate in the LTD
insurance plan. Employees pay 100% of
the premium, with the premiums deducted from gross pay on a post-tax
basis. The benefit paid is equivalent to
66 2/3% of monthly compensation, with a maximum benefit of $8,000/month. Employee must elect coverage within the first
30 days of employment.
Flex Plan
Viterbo University sponsors a
flexible spending plan which allows full-time employees to deduct health and
dental insurance premiums, unreimbursed medical expenses, and dependent care
expenses from gross pay on a pre-tax basis.
Effective with the May 1, 2012, plan year, the maximum annual amount of pre-tax dollars that may be contributed for
unreimbursed medical expenses is $2,500.
The maximum annual amount of pre-tax dollars that may be contributed for

Flex Plan Summary
Vacation
Full-time, 12-month employees accrue
vacation benefits on the 6th and 21st of each month, at
accrual rates that are based on longevity.
The maximum vacation balance that can be maintained at any time is 160
hours.

Staff
- 1 through 3 full years: 3.33 hours accrual rate per pay
period
- 4 through 7 full years: 5.00 hours per pay period
- after 7 full years: 6.67 hours per pay period

Sick
Full-time, 9-month, 10-month, and permanent part-time employees accrue sick
benefits on the 6th and 21st of each month, at accrual
rates that are based on longevity. The
maximum sick balance that can be maintained at any time is 480 hours.

Family and Medical Leave (FMLA)
FMLA is granted up to 12 weeks of
unpaid leave during any 12-month period to eligible, covered employees for the
following reasons: 1) birth and care of the eligible employee's child, or
placement for adoption or foster care of a child with the employee; 2) care of
an immediate family member (spouse, child, parent) who has a serious health
condition; or 3) care of the employee's own serious health condition. Leave may
be used in conjunction with accrued vacation and/or sick time to become paid.
Funeral Leave
Full-time employees are granted three days
funeral leave. If additional time is needed, employee may request two sick
days. Certain family members specified in Personnel Policies and Regulations
