Mo Zhang
China

My name is Mo Zhang and I come from Qingdao, China. I am a chemistry major student. After graduating from Viterbo University with a Bachelor of Science degree, I will go to University of California-Davis to pursue my Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry.

Viterbo has changed me by providing quality education, a caring community, and a healthy environment. I especially enjoy the quaint campus atmosphere with a big city sensation. The curriculum Viterbo designed for me has trained me to become an academically successful student with an open mind and understanding of ethical decision making. A number of Viterbo faculty members have helped me along my career path of becoming a research scientist in the field of chemistry. The faculty went above and beyond in the classroom and were also there to provide me personal guidance.

I am Santiago Perdomo from Colombia. My major at Viterbo is Visual Communication. Living in La Crosse and studying at Viterbo has been a really good experience for me; not only because of the good education that I am receiving, but also for the environment and the ambiance that there is on the campus and in the city itself. People here are very friendly. Professors and the other people who work at Viterbo are always willing to help you. The small size of the classes allows you to know fellow students and the professors personally. There are also many opportunities that complement academic life. There are a variety of clubs and organizations that you can join. One of the most important for me is being a part of the International Club - Global Rhythms. In addition to participating in a variety of fun activities, I have met people from all around the world and learned much about other cultures. I think Viterbo is a great university and it is located in a beautiful city.

You can’t demand more from life when you get up every summer and spring morning and look at beautiful bluffs, and a beautiful sunrise. Is there really any city in the entire USA blessed with beautiful scenic bluffs to the east and bounded by an historic river on the west? I can’t think of any other than La Crosse, Wis. I am Roger Mbah, originally from the grass field area of the North West Province – Cameroon. I am a senior at Viterbo University double-majoring in computer information systems and biochemistry.

Viterbo University is truly my home away from home. Small class sizes have given me a chance to contact the professors in case of any doubts I have. I know most of the students especially those living on campus. Being in a place where I could have the opportunity for spiritual growth was important to me. Viterbo is a Catholic university but welcomes people of all faith traditions. It has encouraged me to explore the meaning of values such as contemplation, service, integrity, stewardship and hospitality in the classroom and put them into practice in the community.

I am a Graphic Design and Digital Media major. There are many things to say about my learning experience here. Coming to Viterbo is not only learning about theory but about life. Meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds makes you think more about yours as well. That's what I like the most, how people can learn from you and what you learn from them. Teachers and students are friendly and welcoming. The university is beautiful in every season. I have to admit though, all my family is in Colombia and I miss them a lot! I don't regret coming here. I have grown as a student, a leader, and as a Catholic woman.

Nathalia Alocaste

I am a Junior majoring in Nursing and minoring in Psychology (alcohol and substance abuse). I transferred from a two-year community college in Maryland to Viterbo in fall 2008. My experience at Viterbo has been and continues to be an intriguing one. Even though it was hard for me adjusting from a big city to a small one such as La Crosse, overall my experience has been wonderful. Viterbo is a great school with outstanding teachers, faculty, staff and students. There are teachers who are ever ready to help whenever you call on them as well as advisors who never fail to give you all the support and help that you need. My experience at Viterbo has been one where I come into contact with people from all parts of the country and I am happy to learn and interact with them. Viterbo is a beautiful school rooted in its Franciscan values which are the values we are being taught. Although it’s a bit too harsh during winter, spring, summer, and fall are very gorgeous with all the lovely flowers, trees, riverside view and many more. I personally enjoy the small classes and the one on one interaction between teacher and student. We have all the necessary means to guide us in achieving our goals and to be great leaders in our generation. I always used to wonder why I came this far from home but being at Viterbo makes me know why.
