Costs and International Student Scholarships
Review the costs of attending Viterbo and the financial assistance available to international students. Viterbo does award some scholarship assistance; however, there are no full scholarships available. Review information in the link below.

English Language Requirements
Proficiency in English is necessary, so review our requirements. For those without English proficiency, we have an ESL program that you can complete. Contact the office of International Admissions ( for more details.

Three Year Degree Policy for Graduate Study
Please note that all accepted applicants with three-year degrees may have to complete prerequisite or leveling classes as part of their degree plan.  

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Viterbo University recognizes that English language proficiency is an important component of academic success for international students whose native language is not English. Students who do not meet the TOEFL or IELTS requirements (see ESL policy below) may be eligible to enroll in one of Viterbo’s English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. The ESL courses are designed to improve students’ experiences at Viterbo by enhancing their conversation, reading, writing, and listening skills, and overall academic performance. Some of the topics the courses will cover include:

  • Improved reading fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Paragraph and writing conventions
  • Academic skills in the classroom
  • Listening comprehension
  • Conversational proficiency
  • Comprehending lectures in English
  • Making oneself understood in class

The ESL Policy

Academic Resource Center

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers individual and group tutoring for all classes offered at Viterbo, at no cost. Some additional services the ARC provides include math assistance, nursing math preparation, and writing assistance. Many workshops are held throughout the semester to help students be successful in all areas of academic performance. The ARC has a Conversation Table designed for international students who need to improve their English conversation skills, as well as one-on-one advanced writing tutoring.
