Mission and Goals


The mission of the gerontology minor is to broaden student's knowledge of the process of aging.  In combination with the student's major, gerontology prepares students to understand the biological, psychological, and social factors of aging. This minor encourages students to make connections among various disciplines to develop the collaborative relationships necessary to serve long living individuals and their families.


  • Students acquire a basic foundation of the aging process in the fields of psychology, biology, physiology, and sociology.
  • Students gain an understanding of the multidisciplinary perspectives of gerontology.
  • Students apply gerontology to their own disciplinary expertise through an internship or practical experience with the elderly.
