Viterbo University has a long history of success in preparing students for healthcare careers. Through a competitive scholarship process each year, one incoming student will be awarded a four-year, full-tuition scholarship. (This would take take the place of any other scholarships offered.) All other finalists competing in the day will receive recognition and scholarships ranging from $4,000-12,000 ($1,000-3,000 per year for up to four years) in addition to their Viterbo academic scholarship. 

Criteria for Application

1. Applicant must be a new, incoming first-year student for fall 2025.
2. Applicant must be interested pursuing an undergraduate program in one of the following areas:
   • Biochemistry
   • Biology
   • Neuroscience
   • 
     Pre-professional healthcare fields
     • Pre-Chiropractic
     • Pre-Dentistry
     • Pre-Medicine
     • Pre-Medical Laboratory Scientist
     • Pre-Occupational Therapy
     • Pre-Optometry
     • Pre-Pathologist Assistant
     • Pre-Pharmacy
     • Pre-Physical Therapy
     • Pre-Physician Assistant
     • Pre-Podiatry
     • Pre-Veterinary
   • Note: Nursing and Nutrition Science students should apply for their separate respective competitions.
3. Selection of finalists (i.e. who is invited to the competition) will include a holistic review, including the following preferences:
   • Cumulative high school GPA of 3.25 or higher
   • Rigorous high school curriculum and demonstrated success in science coursework
   • Submission of a resume (including any extracurriculars, volunteer or community service activities, and work experience) and a brief essay focusing on the applicant's career interests

Additional evaluation of finalists will include, but is not limited to, proctored exams and interviews on the day of the competition.

Scholarship Application

The scholarship application is found in the Viterbo application portal (see link below) and is accessible immediately after submission of your application for admission. (Students applying to Viterbo via the Common App will have a short delay in access to the application. An email will be sent to the student with instructions on how to access the Viterbo application portal.) 

To find the scholarship application once logged into the application portal, click on your 2025 Fall application. On the next screen, select Supplemental Items & Recommendations, select Health Science Scholarship. There, you can upload an essay and resume.

Important Dates

Aug. 1, 2024: the scholarship application opens no later than Aug. 1.

Jan. 15, 2025: to be reviewed for eligibility, students should be admitted to Viterbo and have submitted the scholarship application along with any supplemental items (resume and essay) by 11:59 p.m.

Feb. 14, 2025: Live competition for invited finalists.

May 1, 2025: Deposit submission deadline to confirm enrollment and keep offered scholarships. Depositing is encouraged even earlier in the year, whenever possible.
