STAR Frequently Asked Questions
Does STAR cost anything?
No, there is no cost to you or your parents/ guardians to attend STAR. We even include a free lunch!
Can I change my STAR session date once I receive confirmation?
We strongly discourage changing registration dates. Space is limited to approximately 70 students per date and the various sessions and lunch are based on this number. Participation requires attendance of faculty, staff, and administrators and student materials are prepared each day of STAR for registration. Arriving on a different date will lead to delays in your registration for fall classes.
The brochure strongly encouraged parents / guardians to attend. What will they do at STAR?
We asked your parents/guardians to attend so they will be able to better support you during your important first year of transition at Viterbo University. The two sessions just for parents, as well as the combined sessions will provide information on issues of academic and social support services, and help your parents become better informed about the issues affecting you as a first year student.
Can my younger siblings or younger relatives accompany me?
We discourage the attendance of younger family members. Unlike Viterbo View days (in which we welcome family attendance), the information presented at STAR is designed exclusively for incoming first year students and their parents / guardians. There are no activities to occupy the time of younger brothers or sisters, so perhaps other arrangements for younger siblings could be made for that day.
What information should I bring?
You should plan to bring your completed mandatory forms as well as your Viterbo username and password.
Will I have a student photo identification picture taken at STAR?
Yes, there are opportunities in the morning for you to have your student identification photo taken.
Will there be Placement Testing at STAR?
No, please see Placement Testing.
Where do I park and where do I go when I first arrive?
Parking is available in lot A, I, or J. No parking permit is necessary. Check-in will be located in the Fine Arts Center. See campus map.
My family must drive a long distance to Viterbo. Is lodging available?
STAR is a one day session, so no campus lodging is available. However, the following hotels may provide a discount or reduced rates to STAR participants. Mention Viterbo University and the STAR program when making the reservation (call hotel directly). Here is a link to area lodging facilities.
What if I cannot attend STAR?
Although we encourage you to make arrangements so you are able to attend, we understand there may be unavoidable scheduling conflicts. We ask that you register Absentia and an advisor will contact you via phone or email to register you for your classes. All information given to students during STAR will be sent to your home after the last STAR date has passed. As a reminder, we will be registering you in your absence and you are not required to report to campus prior to your move-in date.
