Talking with a Professional Helps

  • College life can be exciting, challenging…and very stressful. College students are faced with many changes in their lives, which can be difficult.
  • Students are faced with academic challenges, making new friends, choosing a career, and confronting value differences.
  • Adult learners have their own unique set of challenges such as financial difficulties and balancing their studies with being a parent.
  • It is not unusual for all students—traditional and adult learners alike—to experience emotional struggles related to family, self, and others.
  • Students don’t need to meet these challenges alone. Counselors can help bridge the gap and offer support as the student is facing these challenges.

Mission Statement

To provide quality short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and referral services to students in a professional, timely, compassionate, and Franciscan manner.

Confidentiality

  • Successful counseling depends upon a trusting relationship between the client and counselor. The counseling department is committed to ensuring that information resulting from counseling contacts is held in confidence. All information is considered privileged and confidential.
  • Counseling staff is committed to upholding the professional standards of the American College Personnel Association and Wisconsin statutes.
  •  No information is released without your permission. The only exceptions are in the unlikely event that there is a clear and imminent danger to an individual or society, child abuse, or the information is subpoenaed in legal proceedings. Such occasions are very rare.
  • Because of the non-secure nature of email, we ask that students not use email communication for sensitive and personal information. The counselor does not access or maintain email contact outside of business hours.

If you have any questions about confidentiality, ask the counselor.
