Prestigious Health Science Scholarship Competition Friday 

ReinhartCenter2Thirty-two outstanding high school students will be on campus Friday, Feb. 14 to compete for $195,000 in scholarships at the annual Health Science Scholarship Competition.

The winner of the competition will receive a four-year, full-tuition scholarship valued at $91,000. The other participants will receive a scholarship ranging from $2,000–$8,000, plus an annual merit scholarship of $11,000–$13,000.

Previous employer and position/Past experience as related to current position: Onalaska School District, grades 10–12 English/literacy; Western Technical College, written communications/reading; La Crosse Central High School, grades 9–12 English; Rochester Public Schools, grades 7–8 reading.

Board of Trustees Meeting 

The winter meeting of the Board of Trustees, scheduled to have taken place Jan. 27, was cancelled due to the severe weather on that date (the university closed as well).  The executive committee did meet in the morning and conducted business on behalf of the full board. The executive committee approved tuition and fee rates and the general guidelines for the 2014–15 operating budget. On Thursday, Feb. 13, I will host a University Forum at 3:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall to share the core components of the preliminary budget for 2014–15.

NewsAll employees are invited to attend a University Forum hosted by President Rick Artman at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

President Artman will discuss the core components of the 2014–15 preliminary budget and the process for framing the institutional priorities and goals for the 2015–20 strategic plan. For more details, see this week’s President’s Column.

Nominate a deserving colleague for Employee of the Year, Servant Leader, the Alec Chiu Memorial Award, or the other major honors to be announced at the annual Rose Awards ceremony Thursday, May 1 at 3:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

Farewell Reception for Gretchen Johnson Feb. 13

GoodbyeWish Gretchen Johnson, director of campus activities and orientation, well at a farewell reception in her honor from 2–3:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 in the Hawk’s Nest.

Johnson has accepted the position of assistant director of alumni relations at Des Moines University. Her last day at Viterbo is Tuesday, Feb. 18.
