Viterbo to Host Engineering Exploration Day Feb. 17

Prospective students, their families, and the public are invited to learn about the field of engineering and Viterbo’s new engineering major at Engineering Exploration Day the afternoon of Saturday, Feb. 17.

Participants will hear from a panel of engineers from Brennan Marine, Fastenal, Mathy Construction, and Ingersoll Rand, tour the program’s state-of-the-art facilities (in partnership with Western Technical College), and can join their peers and local engineers for a fun and hands-on engineering project.

“This is a great opportunity to learn more about an in-demand field in the region,” said Sara Cook, dean of the College of Education, Science, and Mathematics. “Attendees will hear from successful engineering experts about the many careers available with an engineering degree. Topics will also include industry trends, descriptions of projects and skills, academic paths, and advice for high school students considering the field.”

The schedule for the day:

  • Noon – Lunch in Viterbo’s newly renovated cafeteria for all registered participants.
  • 1 p.m. – Meet the Masterminds Panel: Engineers from prominent local businesses will share their expertise and experiences. Open to the public.
  • 2 p.m. – Facility Tours: Take a firsthand look at the engineering program’s spaces and equipment.
  • 3 p.m. – Engineering Immersion Activity: High school students are invited to participate in a hands-on engineering project.

Every high school senior who attends Engineering Exploration Day and enrolls in Viterbo’s engineering program in fall 2018 will receive a $500 scholarship in addition to any other applicable financial aid and scholarships.
