Hispanic Heritage Month Speaker Today and Tomorrow

Hispanic Heritage Month Speaker: Alex Escobar Prado of Guatemala, a primary school teacher for children in a rural village near Mataquescuintla, Jalapa will speak Monday, Oct. 16 from 9:05–10 a.m. in Murphy Center 404 and Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 11 a.m.-noon in Murphy Center 570.  The event is being held in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Escobar Prado is also a member of Youth Organized in Defense of Life’s community education team, which conducts trainings to build youth leadership to protect the environment. They raise awareness about issues such as the dangers of deforestation and mining in the area, and educate their community on the importance of protecting waterways in Santa Rosa and Jalapa, where small scale agriculture is the main source of income and a way of life.
