Are you looking for a great family experience that gives you the unique opportunity to visit the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Villa? Mississippi Valley Conservancy, in partnership with the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration and the La Crosse Area Astronomical Society are offering the annual stargazing hike at the Villa at St. Joseph’s Ridge from 4:30–9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23. The Viterbo University Hospitality Committee is promoting this event for Viterbo employees and families as an opportunity to connect with our founders, the FSPA.
Participants can tour this beautiful, private hilltop property and learn about their organic horticulture techniques, which produce thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables for the Sisters. Sister Lucy Slinger will discuss their gardening techniques and lead a tour of the gardens and new state-of-the-art greenhouse. A guided hike of this unique and peaceful land will follow. The sunset at the overlook is spectacular and this is the only time during the year to be able to hike their land.
This hike is part of the 2017 “Linked to the Land” series of outdoor activities sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health System—Franciscan Healthcare of La Crosse.
Feel free to bring lawn chairs and snacks and relax in and around the quonset. The Viterbo Hospitality Committee will be providing supplies for S’mores.
If you have your own telescope, you are encouraged to bring it. The views from the ridgetop are spectacular.
