President Glena Temple signs a proclamation making Nov. 8 First Generation College Celebration Day at Viterbo University. Viterbo joins the national First-Generation College Celebration that day in recognizing the contributions and successes of the university’s first generation students, faculty, and staff. Currently, 42 percent of Viterbo students are first generation. Viterbo has a long history of fostering academic success for first generation students through the SSS/TRIO program, which has provided academic support and services for 40 years.
On Nov. 8, a banner, balloons, and treats will be located in the hallway outside the Academic Resource Center in celebration of the day. A large white board will also be available for students write a response to the prompt: “I’m going to college because…”
