Commuter and Non-traditional Students

Welcome to Viterbo University!

Commuter and non-traditional students are important members of the Viterbo community, and we want to make sure your Viterbo experience is as positive as possible!  In addition to the support provided by your academic program and academic/professional advisor(s), know that the Student Affairs team is available to assist you in getting involved on campus, connecting with campus resources and services, serving in the local community, and more.

In addition to utilizing Student Affairs staff, commuter and non-traditional students are also encouraged to reach out to Rick Trietley, Vice President of Student Affairs (rctrietley@viterbo.edu, 608-796-3801) with any questions or concerns they might have. The role of the vice president for student affairs is to serve as student advocate, ombudsman, and a catalyst for improving student life. Working in partnership with students, faculty, and staff, the vice president develops policies, services and programs that promote learning, interaction, and healthy living for all students. The vice president is also responsible for producing, interpreting, and enforcing the Code of Student Conduct (found in the Viterbo Student Handbook) and advising the Student Government Association (SGA). Oversight and support of the following areas also falls within the purview of the vice president: campus activities, counseling services, community service, dining services, health services, intercollegiate athletics, new student orientation, recreational sports, residence life, and student conduct.

As a division, Student Affairs offers multiple services and places students at the center of its focus. Student Affairs professionals work to foster active student learning, leadership, and service. Campus events and services coordinated by Student Affairs professionals include but are not limited to athletic competitions, intramural sports, Family Day, Homecoming Week, Lunch 'n Learn programs, Midnight Madness, New Student Orientation, the President's Holiday Dinner, World View Week, St. Francis Day festivities, VU After Dark Weekend Late Night Programs, Welcome Weeks, the Student Leadership Recognition Dinner, and more.
