President's Day of Service

Thank you for visiting the President's Day of Service webpage! We will use this page to facilitate all President's Day of Service information moving forward.

What is the President's Day of Service?

Viterbo's President's Day of Service is a new tradition created from the Inauguration Day of Service in Spring of 2017 which celebrated President Temple's official arrival.  Because the day was so powerful and really highlighted connections with Viterbo's Mission and Core Values, we have decided to continue these efforts each year.  This year, we anticipate between 300-350 Viterbo folks serving our communities and hope YOU can be a part of the impact!

All are welcome.  If you have friends or family visiting, they are welcome to serve with us.  Alumni from across the region are coordinating service efforts in their local communities.

About one month before the event, we will publish an electronic link to signup for the President's Day of Service.  Each individual will have an opportunity to sign up for the specific location/projects they'd like to serve.

The President's Day of Service is hosted by the Service Saturdays staff.  For more information about upcoming Service Saturdays, please CLICK HERE

If you have any questions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Colin Burns-Gilbert at

CLICK HERE to provide input for this year's 2018 President's Day of Service Event!  The survey link provided will collect information about location/project suggestions, site leader interest, and site adoption interest.  More details on those topics are below!  Priority deadline for capturing these details and preferences is Friday, February 15th at 8am.

Location Suggestions?

By completing the form, you can recommend service locations.  If you have any connections to local non-profits, groups, or agencies that may benefit from our collective service efforts, please share that!  Maybe you have an idea for a specific project you know would benefit our community?  Maybe you've served with a specific person/organization in the past and really made an impact?  All suggestions are helpful!

As we coordinate the event, we recognize there may be community needs outside of our scope of awareness.  The more suggestions that are provided, the bettter able we'll be able to target our service impact in meaningful ways.

Site Leader Interest?

If you know you will be serving with us this year and want an elevated leadership role, consider signing up to serve as a Site Leader!  Ultimately, that means you would serve as the main contact for your service project, introducing yourself to organization staff, and providing guidance/direction for those in your service location/group.  Some sites with more people will need more than one Site Leader!  Please, if you have experience with Service Saturdays or simply want to challenge yourself in a different way, we encourage you to serve as a Site Leader for our President's Day of Service!

Adopt a Location?

If you are part of an organization, club, department, or other Viterbo-affiliated groups, consider adopting a location!  That means you would commit to filling the spaces needed at your adopted site within your network of people.  So whether that's through a class you're in, a group of colleagues you work with, or simply a network of friends/family connections you've made - all are invited to adopt a site!  The link above provides space to capture interest.

Timeline of President's Day of Service Day

7:30a-8:30a - Registration and Continental Breakfast

Arrive early to the Mathy Center to register smoothly, fill your bodies with energy before serving, and meet new people!  You'll be seated in/around your service locations but will have a chance to mingle with others and take photos to capture the day!  To register everyone timely, please arrive no later than 8:15am.

8:30a - Welcome and Kickoff

We will have a short welcome address and provide further instructions for the day, including service site logistics and lunch details.  There will likely be special guests with inspirational messages you don't want to miss!

9a - 12p - Serve the Community

For the duration of this time frame, we'll be serving at our various locations, assisting in whatever ways the organizations and community members will benefit from.  We encourage all to serve intentionally and to focus on the entirety of the experience, building in opportunities to contemplate deeper meaning and build relationships throughout the task/project at hand.

12p-12:30p - Lunch

People will arrive back to the Mathy Center at staggered times depending on their project(s) and locations.  Lunch will be ready and available for folks to refuel after a full morning of service.

12:30p-1:30p - Reflection and Thank You

One of the most important and meaningful portions of the day, we'll provide structured opportunities to reflect on the impact of the service we performed, hear others' perspectives, and share about our own experiences through service.  This will be an opportunity to connect to our day on a deeper level, learn about different perspectives, and hear others' stories.
