Why a Career in Nursing?
Nursing is an interesting career and a valued health profession. A wide variety of opportunities await nursing graduates. Viterbo University nursing graduates work as nurses in critical care and emergency/trauma units, in public health, private industry and home care, and serve in the military and in the Peace Corps. Nurses are health educators, clinical specialists, family advocates and health policy makers. Our work is never boring and always challenging!
Starting full-time salaries for the 2008 Viterbo nursing graduates were in the range of $48,000-$58,000 for full-time employment. Placement rate for 2008 graduates was 100%. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted that Registered Nurses (RNs) will see the fastest employment growth of any occupation through the year 2010. According to projections, the demand for nurses will outstrip the supply by the year 2010 resulting in a critical shortage of RNs. In a recent report issued by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), the “demand has intensified for a higher number of nurses prepared in baccalaureate programs that emphasize leadership, patient education, case management, and care across a variety of acute care and out-patient settings and for graduate prepared RNs with advanced practice skills.”
