Service Learning

As part of its mission to prepare students for the socially responsible use of their talents "for the good of people and the world in which we live," Viterbo University expects all students to share their time, talents and energy with the communities to which they belong.

Art students may choose to fulfill this requirement by:

contributing their skills as an artist  (For example, in the Department: prepare and hang exhibitions, give gallery talks to school/community groups, make art work available for display on campus and elsewhere; in the community: pro bono design work, teaching/tutoring individuals, donating artwork to support worthy causes, volunteering at arts organizations such as the Pump House)

OR

in more traditional volunteer situations, such as Habitat for Humanity, Place of Grace, working on environmental projects, etc.

In order to fulfill the Service Learning requirement for graduation, students must:

  • establish personal service learning goals;
  • decide on and seek out experiences that will help them reach those goals;
  • keep track of services performed to meet their goals by using the Art Department's Service Learning form; and
  • keep the advisor informed of their service learning progress.
