Afterschool Art Workshop classes will meet for eight sessions on Tuesday afternoons from 4:30–6:00p.m. beginning on Tuesday 9 October in the Viterbo Fine Arts Center Room 317, 929 Jackson Street, La Crosse, WI. Our eighth and final session will be held on Tuesday 4 December. 


The following classes will be offered:
 

Wild Things
Students will choose from a variety of materials to create drawings, sculptures, dioramas, prints and paintings depicting real and imaginary animals, plants and insects. Suggested ages 5-8 

Art Studio
Animals, people, pets, nature, places, events and designs are common subject matter for young artists. Students in this class draw, paint, sculpt, collage and print using their ideas for inspiration. Suggested ages 5-8 

Innovative Portraiture
Students will use a variety of traditional art materials and digital media to create portraits of historical figures, athletes, popular personalities, friends, family and pets. Suggested ages 8-12 

Clay Studio
Students will use a variety of clay and sculptural techniques to produce creative and unique artworks. Learning about various cultural traditions students will make everything from functional pots to decorative sculptures. Suggested ages 9-14 

Drawing, Painting & Printmaking
Students in this class will be guided in foundational drawing, painting and printmaking techniques using still life arrangements, landscape and portraiture as subject matter. Students will use paints, watercolors, inks and more to create frameable works of art. Each student will frame at least one favorite work of art. Suggested ages 9-14 

Special Effects- Digital Movie Making
Students will work in groups or individually with traditional media and digital technology to create reality based and fictive adventure stories in short films. This elective includes learning basic drawing techniques to create storyboards and learning about special effects in the history of film-making. Suggested ages 11-14 

 


 




2012 Afterschool Art Workshop Calendar


 
Classes will not meet on Tuesday 20 November, due to Thanksgiving Break. 

The Afterschool Art Workshop classes will be taught by Art Education students under the guidance of Viterbo Art Faculty. To cover the cost of materials and to continue to promote Art Education outreach programs a $50.00 fee per student will be charged. Scholarships are available.
