Barbara Nancy Schroeder, 64, passed away on Friday, Feb. 21 at her home in La Crosse. Barb was born on Jan. 20, 1950 in La Crosse to Russell and Edith (Wapp) Schroeder. She graduated from CentralHigh School in 1968 and attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Barb retired in November, 2013 fromthe Academic Resource Center at Viterbo University, where she had been employedfor nearly 15 years She was known forher wonderful sense of humor and was well-liked by students andcolleagues. Prior to joining Viterbo,Barb worked for Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare and for thelocal office of the American Heart Association.
Until she became ill, Barb was onthe board of the 4,000 Foundation and was active with the La Crosse CountyHistorical Society. She was also amember of Wesley United Methodist Church. Barb’s interests included travel, reading, birding, and railroads. She sold several articles to nationalretirement magazines.
Barb was preceded in death by herparents of La Crosse and by her sister Arlene (Jack) Colley of Moyock, NorthCarolina. She is survived by cousinsincluding Pat Cuellar (Steve) and Rita Harris, both of Waupaca, Wis. plus manyclose friends.
Barb gives many thanks to MaryLund; Sheila Johnson; Deb and Mike Anderson; Jan and Mark Eriksen; Hospice ofGundersen Health System, La Crosse; Hospice of Apache Junction, Arizona; andnumerous friends and colleagues who assisted with her care in recentyears.
A celebration of Barb’s life andfaith will be held Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at the San Damiano Chapelon the Viterbo University campus. The Rev. Dr. William Reese of ViterboUniversity and Fr. Conrad Targonski, OFM, Viterbo University Chaplain willofficiate. Visitation will occur at 10a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be given to the Coulee Region Humane Society or to Jim’sGrocery Bag Fund of the La Crosse Community Foundation.
Burial will be at the Mormon CouleeMemorial Park. Schumacher-Kish is assistingwith arrangements.
