     Gary Klein has served as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Viterbo University since 2002.  He has earned and maintained the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential, the only internationally recognized baseline professional credential for philanthropic fundraising executives, since 2003.  Gary was recognized for his work within the philanthropic sector in 2006 with the Outstanding Professional Fundraiser Award by the Upper Mississippi Valley Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.  Gary has a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master's degree in Philanthropy and Development.  Gary and his wife, Melissa, live in La Crosse.

     Natalie’s primary role as Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement is to help team members prioritize their workload while aligning their responsibilities with the institutional priorities of the office and University. 
     Prior to joining Viterbo University 11 years ago, Natalie worked in the development department for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  Natalie holds a bachelors degree in Psychology and Music from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.  Natalie, her husband and three children live in Onalaska.

     A 2002 graduate of Viterbo University, Josh supports Viterbo’s mission to prepare students for faithful service and ethical leadership by working with Viterbo’s alumni and friends across the country to make a positive, lasting difference in the lives of our students through charitable gifts.
     Prior to working at Viterbo, Josh spent five years at Northwestern Mutual, where he was an insurance and financial representative.  He lives in La Crescent with his wife, Shelley, son, Mason, and daughter, Ella.

     As a major gifts officer, Herb works with benefactors and friends of Viterbo University to create a learning environment that benefits all current and future students in collaboration with other Viterbo University advancement staff.
     Before joining Viterbo, Herb worked in healthcare for 42 years, during which he served in leadership positions with pharmaceutical companies and at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.  He and his wife Barbara are natives of Two Rivers, Wis., and have three children and seven grandchildren.  Herb received a bachelor of science degree from St. Norbert College and served as a Medical Services officer in the U.S. Army. 
     On New Year’s Eve 2001, Herb received a heart transplant. He shares his personal experience with others about the importance of organ donation and advance directives. Herb was an athlete at the U.S. Transplant Games in Pittsburgh, where he captured four medals, including a gold. In 2009, Herb was named a recipient of the Pope John XXIII Award for Distinguished Service from Viterbo University in recognition of his community service and tireless support of faith-based learning.
 


 
Jill Loethen

    As the Annual Fund Gift Officer, Jill Loethen cultivates relationships with alumni and friends to support university endeavors.  Bringing her Missouri roots to the north, Jill has a unique background in a variety of business environments from the Federal Reserve Bank to the University of Central Missouri. 
     Jill holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Central Missouri.  She fosters a desire to give back to the community and above all else values faith, family and friendship.
 


 

Kim

     Kim’s primary responsibilities are to manage direct solicitations related to the Annual Fund including the phonathon, employee campaign, and Stars of the Arts. She also oversees the scholarship process.
     Kim’s involvement with Viterbo started when the doors still read “Viterbo College” and she was a psychology major and member of the women’s basketball team. Since graduating in 2001, Kim feels she never really left the Viterbo community, as she has served as the assistant women’s basketball coach, a member of the Alumni Association Board, and an employee of the university as the Annual Fund Associate. Kim is an ardent fan of V-Hawk basketball and never misses a home game. She also enjoys spending as much time as possible with her family.

     Director of Alumni Relations Kathy Duerwachter is a recent grad of Viterbo’s Master of Business Administration program. Kathy is responsible for managing the relationships between the campus and its alumni, and raising the profile and visibility of Viterbo’s graduates in the La Crosse community, across the nation and around the world.  Her love of higher education and enthusiasm for serving others equip her well to further engage and connect Viterbo alums.
     Prior to joining Viterbo, Kathy was an integral member of a Twin Cities management team with over 20 years in the building materials business, where she served as the assistant Minneapolis market manager prior to her family’s relocation to the La Crosse area.  For the past three years, Kathy has been a substitute teacher, coach, and volunteer in the La Crescent school district while pursuing her MBA degree at Viterbo University.  Kathy’s husband, Craig, along with their two daughters, Dayelle and Sarah, reside in La Crescent.

     Chris’s responsibility as Manager of Development Services is to define and manage policies and practices that facilitate data collection and use. 
     Chris’s expertise in collecting, sorting, reporting and interpreting data helps us manage Viterbo University’s relationships with those who influence our success.  Her other key duties include managing all gifts and pledges to the University and overseeing the logistical details associated with planning Alumni and Development events.  Chris has been at Viterbo University for 30 years.  She and her husband, David, have two children who were lucky enough to benefit from an education at Viterbo.
 


 
Reta

     Reta’s responsibilities as Database Services Associate are to assist the Manager of Development Services in defining and managing office policies and practices for the collection and use of data.  Other duties include report generation, pledge and gift entry, and research and maintenance of constituent information.
     Prior to joining Viterbo, Reta worked at the mail order company Magic Cabin for nine years.  In 2007, she received her Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Western Technical College and has been a member of the Institutional Advancement team at Viterbo since.
     Reta and her husband Joe live in Viroqua.  They have three sons, one of whom is a student at Viterbo, and three grandchildren to keep them extra busy.

     As administrative assistant, Sara assists the manager of development services in defining and managing office policies and practices related to data collection and its use for the greater good of Viterbo University.  She also assists in many other roles including event planning, preparing mail, database management, and alumni and benefactor relations.
