Sydney Schmutzer

  • Hometown: Auburndale, Wisconsin
  • Major: Elementary Education
  • Minor: Early Childhood Education
  • Campus involvement: Member of the Education Club, Volleyball Intramurals, and Voyager.
  • Favorite place on campus and why: My favorite place is Assisi Courtyard. When the weather is nice I enjoy sitting in the courtyard, soaking up some sun, while I do homework. The Boys and Girls Club also makes visits to the courtyard, so it is fun doing activities with them.
  • Favorite place or thing to do in La Crosse: I like walking downtown to study by the river, finding new locally owned shops with my friends, and hiking the bluffs.
  • How's the food: My favorite meal is Steve’s Quesadillas (Pretty much anything Steve makes is amazing!)
  • Why I chose VU: I am from a small town so I loved the close-knit environment that welcomed me on the day of my visit. I also liked how easy and comfortable I felt talking to the staff here at Viterbo. Professors are focused on your success as an individual, and they will do whatever they can to help you reach your goals.
  • Advice for prospective students conducting their college search: Visit more than one campus so you are able to figure out what aspects you like and dislike. Make sure your college offers the major you want and if they do, try and meet current students within that major. Do not choose a school based on your friends your family’s opinions, do what is best for YOU. Lastly, choose a college you know you would love to spend four of the most important years of your life at.
  • Career Aspirations: To be an Elementary School teacher who makes a positive impact on my student’s lives and helps prepare them for obstacles they may face later in life.
