Damon Schmalzriedt

  • Hometown: Lake Crystal, Minnesota
  • Major: Biology
  • Minor: Spanish
  • Campus involvement: Men's Golf, Chemistry tutor, Honors Program, DNA club, Tri-Beta, Summer Undergraduate Researcher, and Voyager.
  • Favorite place on campus and why: My favorite place is the Honors Lounge on 5th floor of the Murphy building. Unless there are a bunch of people gathered there, it is a peaceful place to focus and get work done.
  • Favorite place or thing to do in La Crosse: I spend a lot of time at the golf courses (Forest Hills/LXCC), but other than that I enjoy Granddad Bluff for the view and the Onalaska strip for Ross Dress for Less, Bdubs, and Texas Roadhouse.
  • Favorite meal in the Caf: Can’t beat Steve’s cheesy pasta with chicken. Throw in some broccoli, maybe a few jalapeños, doesn’t get much better than that
  • Why I chose VU: I chose Viterbo because it felt a lot like my small town in that pretty much everyone knows everyone. Also, campus is about 2.5 hours away from my house, so that fit my desire to get away from home.
  • Advice for prospective students conducting their college search: Choose a school that has a priest who rides a motorcycle and wears his facial hair long (a.k.a Father Conrad!).
  • Career Aspirations: Pharmacy as of now, but there are plenty of career avenues in healthcare.
