Academic Thesis Guidelines

A student planning an academic thesis project must be pursuing the B.A. degree. 

A student submitting an academic thesis proposal must meet all general thesis guidelines as outlined in the General Guidelines for All Senior Thesis Projects

The student writing an academic thesis is expected to regularly meet with the faculty advisor to discuss the topic, research, findings, paper focus and content, and presentation style. 

A student wishing to pursue scholarly research in a theatre-related area of study shall submit a well-developed proposal of topic and project goals to the faculty in the spring semester prior to their final year of classes. During the semester which the student is registered for "Senior Thesis" credit, they must meet the following timeline. 

SECOND WEEK OF SEMESTER: 

  • Clearly stated and focused topic and thesis statement
  • General outline of proposed research areas
  • List of initial Bibliography / sources

MIDTERM: 

  • Updated outline, thesis statement & list of sources
  • Presentation of research notes

ONE MONTH PRIOR TO FINALS: 

  • First draft to advisor
  • Revisions

TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO FINALS: 

  • Final thesis to ALL theatre faculty

FINALS WEEK: 

The final, resulting thesis should be a well-researched, well-written, professional, scholarly document which could be submitted to graduate schools or literary publications. 
The paper must meet established MLA guidelines for style presentation.
