Dahl School of Business Scholarships

Education is an investment in your future. We realize, however, that many students rely on financial assistance to help meet the difference between their resources and the cost of college. Thanks to the generous donations and support from families and friends of the Dahl School of Business, we are able to offer four scholarships to assist with the financial needs of the student.

The Marv and Annette Friedewald Business Scholarship

The recipients(s) shall be a full-time student in the School of Business who is a junior or first-semester senior. The recipient must be in good academic standing with a G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher. Preference will be given to student athletes who are committed to service activities on campus and within the community. The scholarship is renewable for no more than two years. The Jack and Rosanne Glendenning Family Scholarship for the School of Business at the La Crosse Community Foundation

The recipient(s) of this scholarship shall be a full-time student who is admitted to the Western Technical College-to-Viterbo University business transfer program. The recipient(s) must have a minimum transfer G.P.A. of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale and must demonstrate financial need as determined by the financial aid office. The recipient(s) may re-apply for consideration of the scholarship for the second year of the program. In doing so, the recipient(s) must maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in business courses with no course below a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. The Jessica Simon Abnet Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship shall be a full-time student in the Dahl School of Business who has Junior or Senior class standing. The student must maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 in their business courses and 2.0 in their other courses to be eligible for the scholarship.  Recipients of the scholarship must also be involved in community service activities at Viterbo and throughout the community.  Preference will be given to students who are members of Enactus (previously SIFE). The Jessica Simon Abnet Endowed Scholarship

The recipient shall be a full-time student in the Dahl School of Business who has Junior or Senior standing.  The recipient must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.  Preference will be given to students who have a full or part time job off campus and are members of Enactus (previously SIFE). The Russell and Vera Smith Foundation Scholarship for the Dahl School of Business

The purpose of this scholarship shall be two-fold: (1) to help students off-set their tuition expense at Viterbo University, and (2) to help students fund special scholarship activities that the students identify and the Dahl School of Business faculty approve as furthering the student's business education. Eighty percent of the available funds shall be distributed in furtherance of the first purpose and 20 percent of the available funds shall be reserved to distribute in furtherance of the latter purpose.

Eligibility for Traditional Scholarship Awards—Incoming Freshmen
Incoming freshmen who apply for scholarships must:

  • Apply to Viterbo University;
  • Have declared a major administered by the Dahl School of Business;
  • Have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average in high school;
  • Graduate in the upper 25 percent of their high school class

Eligibility for Traditional Scholarship Awards—Returning Viterbo Student
Returning Viterbo students applying for the scholarships must be full-time, undergraduate students who have declared a major administered by the Dahl School of Business. The recipients must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application for the scholarship and must demonstrate financial need as determined by the financial aid office. The recipient(s) may re-apply for consideration of the scholarship. In doing so, the recipients must maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all of their business courses with no course below a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Special Scholarship Opportunities

Viterbo University students applying for funds available for special scholarship activities must meet the following criteria:

  • All applicants must be full-time undergraduate students who have declared a major administered by the Dahl School of Business. 
  • The recipients must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application for the scholarship and must demonstrate financial need as determined by the financial aid office.
  • Funding is available for undergraduate students to support activities related to business scholarship activities. Activities may include, but are not limited to, attending scholarly conferences, presentations, and workshops.
  • Awards will be made to help defray the student's cost related to the above-referenced activities, e.g., travel, registration fees, copying.
  • Preference shall be given to students attending scholarly conferences where they are presenting papers or serving as panel discussants.
  • Funding will generally not exceed $300 to any one student in any one academic year. Awards are made on a rolling basis.
  • The scholarly activity must be directly related to a business discipline administered by the Dahl School of Business.
  • The applicant must have the support and recommendation of at least one member of the faculty of the Dahl School of Business.
  • The recipient of funding must complete a written report after completion of the activity. The report shall explain how the activity broadened or complimented the student's business studies. The failure of completing the report will make the student ineligible for any further Dahl School of Business scholarships.
  • The recipient(s) may reapply for consideration of the scholarship from year to year. In doing so, the recipients must maintain minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all of their business courses with no course below a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

MBA Russell and Vera Smith Foundation Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarhip shall be twofold:

  • to help students offset their graduate (MBA program) tuition expense at Viterbo University, and
  • to help students fund special scholarship activities that the students identify and the Dahl School of Business graduate faculty approve as furthering the student's business education. Eighty percent of the available funds shall be distributed in furtherance of the first purpose and twenty percent of the available funds shall be reserved to distribute in furtherance of the latter purpose. Students in all of the Viterbo's MBA programs are eligible.

Eligibility For Traditional Scholarship Award—New MBA Student
Incoming MBA students who apply for scholarships must:

  • Apply to Viterbo University's MBA program and be accepted
  • Have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average in their undergraduate degree work

Eligibility for Traditional Scholarship Awards—Graduate Students Already in Viterbo's MBA Program
Returning/continuing Viterbo University MBA students applying for the scholarships must:

  •  Be a full-time, graduate student
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale at the time of applying for the scholarship
  • Must domonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office

The recipient(s) may reapply for consideration for the scholarship from semester to semester.  In doing so, the recipient(s) must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale in all of their MBA courses.

The Wells Fargo Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Scholarship

The recipients(s) of this scholarship shall be a senior student that has been accepted in Viterbo University's 4+1 BBA/MBA program.  The recipient must participate in service learning project(s) and/or community involvement and were a two-page reflection paper outlining the learning that was derived from their service learning.
