Why Social Work at Viterbo?

The Viterbo University Social Work Program features:

  • National accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education.
  • Completion of a 30-hour per week, 450-hour internship in a social service setting working with a trained social work field instructor.
  • Experiential learning including participation in National Association of Social Workers Lobby, joining hundreds of other social workers for a day at the capitol in Madison and a four-day trip to Chicago to observe Juvenile Court, visit ethnic neighborhoods, and urban social service agencies.
  • Hands-on assignments including interviewing and shadowing social workers, conducting intakes at St. Clare Health Mission, and completion of an advocacy project. Course related field trips to treatment centers, funeral homes, the Hmong Cultural Center, and regional social service conferences.
  • An active student social work club that sponsors educational events, provides service in the community and raises money for local causes.
  • A Chapter of Phi Alpha Honor Society, the National Social Work Honor Society.
  • The Social Work Program celebrated it's 100th student.
  • We celebrated our tenth year anniversary of social work education in 2010.
