Early Alert

The mission of Early Alert at Viterbo University is to identify students who are having academic difficulty, facilitating an early intervention that addresses their needs, thereby increasing the likelihood of their success.

What is Starfish Early Alert?

Starting Fall Semester 2013, Viterbo University has adopted Starfish Early Alert as its new early alert software system.  Starfish is designed to identify students who are having academic difficulty at any point in their education and promptly direct them to the support services that can help them succeed.  The process is supported by Starfish Retention Solutions and is accessible through Moodle.  Starfish gives us an efficient way to communicate concerns to the people who can help, while respecting FERPA and our institution's policies on the privacy of student information.  Additionally, Starfish allows us to communicate positive notes to students through use of a kudos system.  Being able to recognize students for their positive work, aids in the student success efforts on campus.

Increased communication between faculty, staff, and students has been a proven strategy for increasing student success.  Involving all campus faculty and staff will ensure that each student enrolled at Viterbo has the best possible chance to succeed.

Early Alert + Early Intervention = Increased Student Success!
