Nursing Math Test

Nursing Math Test

Every fall and spring, Viterbo’s math specialist offers the Nursing Math Test that needs to be passed prior to applying to the nursing program. Materials are available to help students prepare for the test. Remediation is available when retakes are needed.

Students are encouraged to complete the testing during the first semester of their freshman year; however, it can be completed any semester as long as it is passed prior to submitting their application. For students who are admitted to Viterbo directly into the Nursing sequence, the Test must be passed the semester they enter Viterbo.

The Test covers content including:

  • Decimals
  • Fractions
  • Percents
  • Ratios and Proportions
  • Conversions among the Metric and Household systems

All students who have declared Nursing as their major will have access to the Nursing Math Information Moodle site until they have passed the Nursing Math Test. On that site, students will have access to the link needed to sign up for the Test, along with access to documents and video links to help study for the Test.

Students will sign up for a six-week series, starting with testing the first week. Fall testing begins the third week of classes, and spring testing begins the second week of classes. Students will choose the Monday, Tuesday, or Friday series. Once the Test has been passed, the student no longer needs to attend. Weekly session times are as follows:

  • Mondays: 3 - 4:30 pm
  • Tuesdays: 3 - 4:30 pm
  • Fridays: 1:30 - 3 pm

If students don't pass after the fifth testing offered, they need to meet with the Math Specialist for remediation and retakes until they pass.
