Name: Andrea Peirce
Department: Biology (Microbiology)
What courses do you teach?
I teach microbiology labs and biology labs at Viterbo.
How long have you been teaching at Viterbo University?
This is my second semester with Viterbo. I have been teaching at the university level since 2005.
What is something you do in the classroom that has proven effective?
I bring in lots of real world applications and case stories from my work in industry because I am a Medical Laboratory Scientist for Mayo Clinic. My area of focus is hematology.
What is something you do outside of the classroom (e.g. scholarly work, research, publication)?
I work as a Medical Laboratory Scientist for MCHS-Franciscan Healthcare and my lab window overlooks the chapel.
What is something you do for fun (e.g. hobbies, interests beyond teaching)?
I make cheese, yogurt, and beer! It’s wonderful to use my microbiology knowledge for tasty food rather than just pathogenicity. I play with my kids and husband. We like games, art, and swimming.
