I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. We have two weeks left. This is the last week of course evals, so make sure and keep reminding your students. I will re-send the email with the instructions on how to check your response rates later today.

  • Free gradebook tune-ups
  • Last week for course evals
  • Webinar on Quizzes
  • META courses

Upcoming Training

All training sessions are in the Learning Commons (2nd floor of the library MC248)

This Thursday’s open session will be in the Hospitality Suite

Thursday, 04 December, Open Session: 9:30a-12a
Friday, 05 December Open Session: 9:30a-12a
Tuesday, 09 December Webinar- Moodle Quizzes 10-11a

Moodle tip of the week:

  1. Free gradebook tune-ups. Remember, the trainers are ready and willing to take a look at your gradebook if things just don’t seem to be adding up, or even if they are and you just want a second pair of eyes. Emailcourserequest@viterbo.eduor come to one of the Open Sessions on Thursday or Friday morning in the Learning Commons.
  2. Last week for course evaluations. Course evals will close on Sunday, Dec 07 at 11:59p. I will re-send the email with the instructions on checking your response rates. The students get reminded via email, but your reminders really are helpful.
  3. Webinar on Quizzes. Next week, on 09 Dec, Cari will be hosting a webinar from Remote Learner on using Moodle Quizzes. You can learn how to get questions into your quizzes without having to create them one at a time.
  4. META courses. It’s not too early to ask for META courses. If you have a cross-listed course, or multiple sections of a course that can share content, emailcourserequest@viterbo.edu. I need to know the prefixes, course numbers, and section numbers of the courses you want combined and if there is more than one instructor, I need those names too. If you aren’t sure if a META will help you, email, and we can help you figure that out.

Upcoming Training

Tuesday, 09 Dec Webinar- Quizzes 10-11a

Moodle tip of the week:

  1. Course Evals. Course evaluations for all courses with an end date between 19 Oct and 13 Dec opened Sunday morning at 12:01a. They will close 07 Dec at 11:59p. Since we have a holiday break in the middle, it’s a good idea to remind your students early and often. Instructors, look for an email with instructions on how to check your response rate.
  2. Backup. Sadly bad things can happen on computers. You can make them less stressful by making and keeping a backup of your courses and gradebook when you make major changes. Here are some instructions:Backup your courseandExport your grades. Make a backup once you have built your course, made major changes, and at the end of the class. Export your grades after you get your gradebook set up, you grade major assignments, and at the end of the class when you are ready to submit your grades.

Moodle tip of the week:

  1. Spring 2015 classes. Last week I told you that the 2015SP classes would be available today in Moodle. Moodle apparently had other ideas. We ran into a technical error, and after working with our Moodle host to resolve it, the classes are starting to load as I write this. If your course hasn’t shown up by tomorrow, let me know
  2. META courses. Once courses are loaded, we can start working on META classes. If you need sections combined in Moodle, emailcourserequest@viterbo.eduas soon as you know and we can get the process started. We need to know the course prefix, number and section numbers of the classes to be combined. Example: ENGL-101-001 and ENGL-101-002. If you want to know what a META course is or how it can help you, let us know.
  3. Webinar- Forums. Forums, aka Discussions, can be a great tool in both online and face to face classes, but what are the best ways to use them? Come find out at a webinar on Tuesday in the Commons at 10a. Presented by Remote Learner.
  4. Excel 2013. On Tuesday and Wednesday from 1:30-1:20p in the Commons, I will be offering workshops on using Excel 2013. Tuesday we will look at Excel basics, and on Wednesday we will look at tips and tricks at an intermediate level.
