  • Rubrics and Marking Guides
  • Back up!

Upcoming Sessions

Thurs 30 Oct 9:30-12 - Open Session – Murphy 424
Fri 31 Oct 9:30-12 - Open Session

Moodle tip of the week:

  1. What to change and what to leave alone. I have mentioned before that you should be cautious about changing the aggregation method in your gradebook. We have now discovered that if you change a discussion type after students have posted, their posts could be lost. If you have questions contact us atcourserequest@viterbo.edu
  2. Rubrics and Marking Guides.Cari has put together some helpful videos on using Moodle’s built in rubrics and marking guides for assignments.Moodle Rubrics and Marking guides
  3. Back up. It’s a good practice to export your grades after you make big changes or at the end of your class. Here’s howGrade Export instructions.

Fri 24 Oct 9:30-12 - Open Session

Moodle tip of the week:

  1. Microsoft Office 2013. Over the summer all faculty, admins and staff were upgraded to Office 2013. Come to the Commons on Tuesday at 10 for basic tips tricks and changes, then Wednesday at 10 for power-user tips. Bring your questions, too.
  2. Using the Moodle Calendar. The Moodle calendar can do a lot more than you think. On Wednesday from 2-3 come join a webinar on how to get more out of the calendar, including importing and exporting.
  3. The Scroll of Death. Sounds like a horror movie, right? One way to make it easier on students in classes with a lot of topic sections is to drag the current section to the top. You can also highlight the section (use the little lightbulb) or hide past sections.  Contactcourserequest@viterbo.eduand we can help you defeat the Scroll of Death.
  4. Open Sessions. Don’t forget, we have Open Sessions every Thursday and Friday for your Moodle and other instructional technology questions. This Thursday, I’ll be in the Reinhart 2ndfloor reading room.

Hello Moodlers,

It’s time for Fall Break!

In this episode:

  • Course Evals now completed.
  • Downtime for Moodle
  • Turnitin Reminder

Upcoming Sessions

Do you want to learn more about Rubrics and Marking Guides? Cari will be discussing their features and how to use them at a Lunch and Learn on Wednesday at noon, feel free to bring your lunch. No open sessions this week, go enjoy your Fall Break. All sessions are in the Learning Commons (2nd floor of the library MC248)

Wednesday 15 Oct Lunch and Learn: 12-1

Moodle tip of the week:

  1. Course Evals now completed. Evaluations for classes that end anytime during the 1st7 week term of the semester closed last night at midnight. Faculty will receive an email with results on 23 Oct.
  2. Moodle downtime. The new Moodle will be down on Friday 17 October from 8:00a-about 10:00a while we apply some address changes.  After Moodle is back up, I will send an email, and you will be able to access Moodle using the moodle.viterbo.edu address. If you have made a bookmark for the new Moodle, it will no longer work.
  3. Turnitin Reminder. It is not a good idea to import or reuse a Turnitin assignment. Because Turnitin is an external service, all the students and papers from the previous assignment will come along. Additionally, we had a different ID number in the old Moodle, so assignments from those classes may not be able to connect.  Contactcourserequest@viterbo.eduand we can help you out.
