About the School of Nursing

The Viterbo University School of Nursing is a fully accredited, regionally distinctive program offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Today, the School of Nursing has over 600 students enrolled in its four programs with a full- and part-time faculty numbering near 35.

As members of the larger university community, nursing and dietetics students have the opportunity to study philosophy and religious studies as well as the sciences. This ability to gain a broad liberal arts perspective throughout the professional curriculum sets Viterbo graduates apart. With our roots deep in the Franciscan tradition of health care service, we set high standards for our students and in turn graduate highly competent, liberally educated  professional nurses and dietitians.

Goals

The goals of the School of Nursing are to:

  • implement a professional nursing curriculum that builds on a strong liberal arts foundation for undergraduate learners and offers specialization, expansion, and/or advancement in nursing practice for graduate and professional learners.
  • implement a professional curriculum in nutrition and dietetics to prepare graduates to provide comprehensive nutrition care in community and medical settings.
  • provide an educational experience that emphasizes active learning in a values based context;
  • create a collegial environment that facilitates the professional development of students and faculty;
  • prepare graduates for professional practice in a dynamic health care environment.
