Using Turnitin Assignments Effectively

(Moodle, Technologies for Teaching and Learning) Permanent link

You may know of Turnitin via "Turnitin Assignments" in Moodle. Turnitin assigments allow instructors to check students submissions for similarity to other student submissions and internet sources.

Turnitin.com offers a series of webcasts to learn how to more effectively use Turnitin Assignments. Click on the following link to learn more: http://turnitin.com/en_us/resources/webcasts.

Thursday, 11 Sept Open Session + TracDat: 9:30a-12p
Friday, 12 Sept Open Session + TracDat: 9:30a-12p

Moodle tip of the week:

  1. Recording Presentations. On Wednesday, September 10th, from 12-1pm in the Learning Commons, Cari Mathwig Ramseier will facilitate a discussion and share effective practices for recording and posting presentations online.
  2. Wait, what?Yes, people are still having issues finding their classes. If you have contacted me, know that you are NOT alone, I may or may not have done the same thing on occasion ;). We are all getting tricked by handy bookmarks. We will soon be moving the web address for the old Moodle to the new. We will still be able to access Old Moodle for a few months, but it won’t be sneaking up on you anymore. Tune in here for news.
  3. How do I enrol someone in my class? On occasion there is a need to enroll people into your class or group. One of the big questions, especially for large classes or groups is that the user being searched for is not showing up on the list. If you are spelling the name correctly, then they are probably already enrolled. If a student or instructor will be enrolled via Vitnet, please don’t manually enrol them.Instructions for enrolling users

Moodle News for the Week of Sept. 2-5

(Moodle Updates) Permanent link

Hello Moodlers,

We made it through the first week, and I know I was really grateful for the three day weekend. This week: something other than helping you find your classes.

In this episode:

  • Take attendance in Moodle?
  • What NOT to import.
  • TracDat?

Upcoming Training

All training sessions are in the Learning Commons (2nd floor of the library MC248)

Thursday, 04 Sept Open Session + TracDat: 9:30-12
Friday, 05 Sept Open Session + TracDat: 9:30-12

Moodle tip of the week:

  1. Using Moodle to take attendance. Moodle has a nifty activity that can be used to take attendance in your classes. Here is a link to the instructionsAttendance activity. One hint, if you are not sure if you want it to show in the gradebook, make it ungraded. It’s easier to attach something to the gradebook than detach it
  2. What not to import. When you are importing content from old classes, leave off attendance and Turnitin assignments. They both bring stuff from the previous class with them. It’s better to start new.
  3. TracDat?Yup, TracDat. Naomi and Nicole from Institutional Research will be joining the Open Sessions in Sept to help with all of your TracDat needs. Maybe even what TracDat is. (It’s the software we use for assessment)
