Welcome to the Viterbo University School of Fine Arts
The fine arts are part of a long and cherished tradition at Viterbo University that is literally written in stone. In fact, the time capsule located in the cornerstone of the Fine Arts Center, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2011, includes this message: "Youth educated in truth and sensitive to beauty comprise one of the best guarantees of a stabilized and peaceful Christian society in the future."
From the very beginnings over a century ago, the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration recognized the importance of the arts when they opened their doors to avid young music students from throughout the region. And the centrality of the arts in the formation of the whole person continues to guide and influence educational directions at Viterbo through developing "artistic awareness" in the university core curriculum, by offering highly-respected training programs in art, music, theatre and music theatre, and in serving as the cultural center for arts programming in the greater La Crosse region.
Inspired by a dedicated faculty of talented professionals and prepared through close personal attention, fine arts students develop and refine their creative talents within a liberal arts, integrated, values-based educational framework. Our graduates continue to excel as teachers, visual artists, and performers on local, regional, and national levels. They also possess a keen awareness of the role they can play in changing society by revealing truth and beauty through the universal language of artistic expression.
