Previous employer and position/Past experience as related to current position: Most recently, I was employed by Western Technical College as a grant specialist. Prior to that, I spent 21 years with the La Crescent-Hokah School District as the early childhood programs coordinator and early childhood and parent educator. I love education and look forward to playing a role in shaping the next generation of teachers.
Hometown: La Crescent, Minn.
Why did you choose Viterbo as your next employer? I have experienced Viterbo in many capacities over the years, as a patron of the amazing fine arts productions, a participant in the non-profit leadership development program, and as a parent of a student in the theatre program. In all of these situations, I have been impressed with the combination of hospitality and professionalism demonstrated by staff and students alike, as well as with the general climate that is immediately evident when one steps onto campus. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to use my time and talents to serve not only the post-baccalaureate program, but to the university as a whole.
Of the five Viterbo values, which resonates with you most and why? Service. I am extremely grateful for the many blessings in my life and believe it to be my responsibility to give to others who may not have the good fortune that I have. A significant amount of my service work revolves around animal rescue, an effort that my entire family participates in by volunteering at our local animal shelter and fostering homeless dogs and cats. Last year we traveled to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, where we spent a week volunteering.
Unique fact about you: I fulfilled a lifelong goal of participating in a musical theatre production last year when I played the role of Sister Mary Feline, the crazy-cat nun, in Appleseed Community Theatre’s production of Nunsense.
Anything about your family you would like to share: My husband Dan is an operations manager for Kwik Trip. Andy (21) is a senior at Viterbo, Bridget (18) is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin, and Lauren (14) is a freshman at La Crescent High School. We have one dog, Joey, and more cats than I would like to admit.
