St. Francis Day Mass

The Viterbo community celebrated St. Francis Day Oct. 4 with Mass in Maria Angelorum Chapel at St. Rose Convent. The day’s other activities included lunch, a pet blessing, and a bonfire.

Viterbo to Present A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum Oct. 12–14

Forum2Viterbo will present the very popular Broadway musical comedy A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum Friday, Oct. 12–Sunday, Oct. 14 in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.

Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a hilarious story in which crafty slave Pseudolus struggles to win the hand of a beautiful courtesan, Philia, for his young master Hero in exchange for his freedom. It is filled with witty one-liners, puns, phrases with double meanings, and cases of mistaken identity. The book is by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The musical was originally produced on Broadway by Harold S. Prince.


Gundersen Lutheran CEO to Open Leadership at Noon Series Oct. 15

Thompson2The Leadership at Noon Series will open with Gundersen Lutheran Health System CEO Jeff Thompson, M.D., Monday, Oct. 15 in the Reinhart Center Board Room.

Gundersen Lutheran is a comprehensive not-for-profit health care network that includes one of the nation’s largest multi-specialty group medical practices, regional community clinics, a hospital, home care, behavioral health services, vision centers, pharmacies, and air and ground ambulances located throughout western Wisconsin, northeastern Iowa, and southeastern Minnesota.

Piano Duo to Perform Oct. 11

PianoRecitalGuest artists Elaine Greenfield and Jan Thompson will perform a piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

The program will feature works by Ravel, Lutoslawski, and others. It is free and open to the public.


Sport Leadership Olympics

Students in the History and Philosophy of Sport course used Assisi Courtyard for a friendly but spirited competition in ancient Olympic sports. After their studies on games played in the Greek city-states, they took the Olympic Oath before competing in sprinting, discus and javelin, and the long jump. The course introduces the evolution and development of sport as played in various cultures and time periods. Donate Blood Oct. 9

A BloodCenter of Wisconsin blood drive will be held from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 in the Reinhart Center Board Room.

Hospitality Committee Lasagna Lunch Oct. 17

Lasagna2The hospitality committee is sponsoring an employee lunch Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. in the Reinhart Center Board Room. Enjoy a lasagna buffet (meat or vegetable), garlic breadsticks, Tuscan salad, dessert, and a beverage.

The cost of the lunch is $5. RSVP with your choice of lasagna to Jocelyn Mlsna, financial aid, at and send $5 to her through in-house mail. RSVP and payment is due by noon Monday, Oct. 15. Carry-outs will be available.

Senior Show to Open in Art Gallery Oct. 10

The art of students Zach Stark, Anna Johnson, and Erica Johnson will be on display in the Viterbo University Gallery in an exhibit opening with a reception from 7:30–9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10.

The exhibit will run until Friday, Nov.2. There is no admission fee to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Fine Arts Center on campus. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. when school is in session.
